London Mobile Christmas Service
working to give London's homeless a better Christmas

Operations

Since 1992 we have operated a mobile food, medical and clothing service for London's homeless and vulnerable over the Christmas holiday week. This is a particularly difficult time for them as many facilities provided throughout the rest of the year are closed over this period.

From Christmas 2000, we diversified our service to staff day centres that would otherwise be closed. In 2007 we will run centres in Cricklewood, Bayswater and Kentish Town.

During the six days operation over Christmas, we serve thousands of freshly cooked meals, make thousands of hot drinks, give clean clothing and toiletries to over 1,000 people, and have numerous hairdressing appointments. We also give medical help and advice to those who need it, and provide companionship to those who join us for Christmas.

We usually work with the Dog Trust, giving attention to the dogs that give company to some of the homeless.

As well as serving the homeless themselves, by providing this cover, the London Mobile Christmas Service enables those who work permanently with the homeless to take a break and enjoy Christmas with their families.
